Rio Ferdinand, the legendary figure from Manchester United, has expressed the view that Manchester City should regard Arsenal as a serious contender in the current Premier League season.
Presently, Arsenal sits atop the league table with 36 points, holding a six-point advantage over City, who have slipped to the fourth position after a 1-0 defeat against Aston Villa. With City enduring a winless streak of four matches and trailing behind Liverpool and Villa in the standings, Ferdinand believes that Arsenal is the team to watch out for.
Ferdinand stated, “I don’t actually think Arsenal have reached the performance level they displayed last season. However, despite not consistently playing at their best, they are still leading the league. They’re a significant challenge, and if I were City, I’d be thinking that this is the real deal. We can’t afford to drop points as we did at Villa because Arsenal seems poised to be relentless again.”
Expressing a shift in his earlier season prediction, Ferdinand admitted, “I initially said City would win the league, but I’m less convinced now. While I still believe City has a good chance, I wouldn’t be surprised if Arsenal clinches the title.”
