Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher has suggested Harvey Elliot and Dominik Szoboszlai as potential stand-ins for Mohamed Salah during his absence at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) this month.
Salah exhibited outstanding performance for Liverpool against Newcastle United, securing a brace and contributing an assist in the recent Monday night match, ultimately propelling the Reds three points ahead at the summit of the Premier League table.
With Salah set to represent Egypt in AFCON, potentially sidelining him for up to eight Liverpool games if Egypt progresses to the finals in Ivory Coast, manager Jurgen Klopp faces a significant offensive challenge.
Carragher believes that both Harvey Elliot and Dominik Szoboszlai could serve as temporary replacements for Salah. While acknowledging that Liverpool’s attacking lineup leans toward right-footed players, Carragher pointed out the versatility of Elliot, who, despite being primarily a midfielder, might adapt to the front three. Additionally, Szoboszlai’s background in midfield could offer Klopp a valuable option, especially with the return of Alexis Mac Allister.
Carragher emphasized the difficulty of replacing Salah’s goal-scoring prowess but highlighted the potential contributions of Elliot and Szoboszlai in the interim.
