Evra Accuses Man Utd of Using Pogba’s Return to Embarrass Ferguson
Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has made a striking claim about the club’s decision to bring Paul Pogba back to Old Trafford.
According to Evra, Manchester United’s decision to re-sign Pogba in the summer of 2016 was driven by a desire to “humiliate” legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson. Pogba had originally left the club as a free agent in 2012 to join Juventus.
The French midfielder’s return came with a world-record transfer fee of £90 million. Evra, speaking on the Stick To Football podcast, revealed that he had warned Pogba against rejoining United.
He stated, “Man United brought Paul Pogba back because they wanted to humiliate Ferguson. They said, ‘You let him go for free, and now we’re going to bring him back for £90m.’ I told Paul, ‘This is going to be the biggest mistake, don’t go back.’”
Pogba eventually departed Manchester United again as a free agent in 2022.
