Mauricio Pochettino, the manager of Chelsea, emphasized that his team’s 2-1 loss to Wolves in the Premier League on Christmas Eve was primarily attributed to the missed opportunities by his players in front of the goal.
Wolves secured a victory over Chelsea with two goals from Mario Lemina and Matt Doherty.
Despite the defeat, Christopher Nkunku managed to score a consolation goal in his Premier League debut for the Blues at Molineux.
Pochettino commented:
“Undoubtedly, there is a sense of disappointment.
While I believe our efforts merited a better outcome, it’s essential to acknowledge the fierce competition within the Premier League. When lacking in clinical precision, one must refrain from lamenting the results.
During the initial half, we generated numerous scoring opportunities but failed to capitalize on them. The turning point occurred in the second half, conceding a few corners that ultimately allowed Wolves to seize the lead. Their superior clinical finishing is the decisive factor behind the final result.”
