The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibadan Zonal office, invited several Ogun State government officials for questioning on Tuesday as part of an ongoing investigation. Dele Oyewale, Head of Media and Publicity for the EFCC, confirmed the invitations in a telephone interview with newsmen on Wednesday, stating, “I confirmed with our Ibadan Zonal office that some Ogun State officials were invited for a discussion regarding an ongoing investigation. They have since returned to their state, and no one was detained.”
When asked for further details about those invited, Oyewale added, “I can confirm that they were Ogun State government officials, but I cannot provide more specifics at this time.”
Reliable sources indicate that the officials invited include Ogun State Accountant General, Mr. Tunde Aregbesola, and four other government personnel. This development follows a petition filed last August by former Ijebu East Local Government Chairman, Wale Adedayo. Adedayo alleged that Governor Dapo Abiodun had diverted approximately N10.8 billion intended for the state’s 20 local governments.
An insider confirmed, “It’s true that the Accountant General and some state officials were questioned by the EFCC on Tuesday. The inquiry is related to state finances, though the specifics are not fully clear.”
The petition by Adedayo, originally addressed privately to former Governor Chief Olusegun Osoba, accused Governor Abiodun of misappropriating funds meant for local government development. Adedayo also formally requested an EFCC investigation into the alleged financial misconduct.
