DJ Switch Challenges Wike and Dokubo Amid Nationwide Hunger Protests

Obianuju Catherine, popularly known as DJ Switch, has issued a public challenge to Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and Asari Dokubo, a former Niger Delta militant leader, in the midst of the ongoing nationwide hunger protests.

The 10-day protests, branded as ‘EndBadGovernance’, began on August 1, 2024, and aim to draw attention to Nigeria’s economic difficulties.

Prior to the demonstrations, Asari Dokubo had warned the organizers against bringing the protests to his region, questioning the relevance of their agenda to local issues. Similarly, Minister Wike threatened to prevent the protests from taking place in Abuja and, during a security council meeting on the first day of the protests, alleged that there was intelligence suggesting the protesters planned to vandalize property.

In response, DJ Switch, a prominent activist known for her role in the 2020 #EndSARS protests, took to social media to challenge Wike and Dokubo. She urged them to confront the protesters directly if they were not afraid, criticizing their attempts to intimidate and suppress the movement.

In her post, DJ Switch emphasized that hunger cannot be solved through violence or threats, but only by addressing the root causes of the economic crisis. She wrote:

“The only thing that can stop HUNGER is FOOD! Not guns, teargas, or threats from fat globs like Asari Dokubo and chicken feed Wike! I wonder why they are hiding now. Come outside let them eat you raw,” her tweet read.
