Delta State’s Ika South LG Bans Scrap Scavenging Amid Rising Insecurity

Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State has officially banned scrap and metal scavenging, commonly known as “Iron Condemn,” due to concerns over rising insecurity and criminal activities linked to scavengers.

In a statement signed by the Secretary to the local government, Mr. Kainji Aluge Obia, the ban was announced following an uptick in illegal actions attributed to some scavengers in the region.

The local government emphasized that anyone caught scavenging within its jurisdiction will be arrested by law enforcement and prosecuted accordingly.

This decision follows earlier efforts by the local government to regulate the scavenging activities through mandatory documentation, which failed to curb the associated criminal behavior.
