Court remands man for allegedly defiling 16-year-old girl in Lagos

In an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, a 34-year-old man named Emenike Agugwo was remanded in a correctional facility for allegedly defiling a 16-year-old girl. Agugwo, who resides in Agodo, Ikotun area of Lagos, is facing charges of defilement.

The prosecutor, Inspector John Iberedem, informed the court that the suspect committed the offence at around 7:30 p.m. on April 4 at Okesanya Street, Papa–Ajao, Lagos Barcha, Lagos. According to Iberedem, the suspect forcibly engaged in sexual intercourse with the victim without her consent.

The prosecutor noted that the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubeinje, did not take Agugwo’s plea and ordered that he be remanded in a correctional center. She adjourned the matter until June 26 for advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
