Children’s Day: NHRC raises concerns over rising cases of Child Rights violations

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has voiced alarm over the increasing instances of Child Rights violations across Nigeria.

In a statement issued to mark the 2024 Children’s Day, NHRC Executive Secretary Tony Ojukwu emphasized the urgent need for renewed commitment from all sectors of society to protect and uphold the fundamental rights of children.

The statement, signed by Obinna Nwakonye, Director of Corporate Affairs and External Relations at the NHRC, highlighted the disturbing trend and called for immediate action. “This alarming surge in Child Rights violations demands that every segment of our society recommits to safeguarding the rights and welfare of children,” Ojukwu stated.

The NHRC’s call to action on Children’s Day underscores the pressing need for collective efforts to address and mitigate the challenges facing children in Nigeria.
