Nollywood actor Chidi Mokeme disclosed that his father initially opposed his choice to pursue a career in acting. Mokeme, who initially began as a model, eventually transitioned into acting. He shared the story of leaving home to wholeheartedly pursue his aspirations in the world of acting.

“So, it was clear in my mind. I initiated this journey by discreetly venturing into these pursuits. Fortunately, I began my foray into the entertainment industry as a model. In the era predating the home video boom, I engaged in various commercial modeling assignments, runway shows, TV commercials, and calendar shoots. This made it relatively convenient; I could conduct a quick shoot during the daytime and return home without my father being aware, as he was not involved in that world.

“However, on numerous occasions when I returned home late from shoots, my father would insist that I go back to wherever I had been. Despite the challenges of sneaking around, there was a genuine passion driving me. I simply knew that my happiness lay within the realm of entertainment.

“What eventually led to a decisive break was my attempt to pursue a degree in pharmacy, which didn’t materialize. I then switched to computer science, but upon reaching the university, the lack of accessible computers in the department made it unappealing. Consequently, I left, as the subject no longer held my interest.

“Subsequently, I made the choice to leave home. This decision wasn’t abrupt; it stemmed from the cumulative experiences of being told to ‘go back where you are coming from.’ To reinforce my resolve, I committed further, hoping that my father would eventually ask me to return to my origins.”

He recounted that his breakthrough moment occurred when he chose to abandon his examinations to take on a supporting role in a production.
