Manchester City faced a setback in their match against Chelsea when Cole Palmer’s 95th-minute penalty secured a 4-4 draw in a thrilling clash on Sunday. The point earned at Stamford Bridge keeps City narrowly leading the table, just one point ahead of both Liverpool, who won 3-0 against Brentford, and Arsenal
Palmer returned to trouble his previous team, as City allowed the lead to slip three times against the Blues.
Pep Guardiola’s team took the lead in a controversial manner when Erling Haaland converted a penalty, awarded after he was brought down by Marc Cucurella during a tussle for position at the back post.
However, under Mauricio Pochettino’s early leadership, Chelsea has consistently delivered impressive performances against formidable opponents. Thiago Silva equalized by heading in a corner, and Reece James capitalized on an error from Josko Gvardiol to assist Raheem Sterling in scoring against his former team.
Chelsea’s lead was short-lived, as Manuel Akanji found ample space to head in Bernardo Silva’s cross before the halftime whistle.
City quickly regained the lead early in the second half, with Haaland sliding in to meet Julian Alvarez’s cross, marking his 17th goal in 18 games this season.
Chelsea responded once again, with Nicolas Jackson capitalizing on a rebound from Ederson, who had parried Conor Gallagher’s shot back into a dangerous area.
The game seemed settled in the visitors’ favor when Rodri’s deflected effort found the net in the 86th minute.
Ruben Dias faced a penalty for his challenge on Armando Broja in added time, accused of diving. However, Palmer displayed remarkable composure, confidently converting the penalty with a powerful shot.
