Chelsea extended their unbeaten streak to six matches in all competitions with a commanding 3-0 victory over Aston Villa, who are now enduring an eight-match winless run. Despite Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca’s assertion that his young team is not yet title contenders in his first season of rebuilding, the Blues are showing promising form and look increasingly capable of securing a Champions League spot. With three consecutive wins in just eight days, they are now level on points with second-placed Arsenal. Meanwhile, Villa, who secured a famous Champions League win over Bayern Munich in October, have struggled in the Premier League, winning just once since then.
The match was a clinical performance from Chelsea, starting with a goal from Nicolas Jackson in the 7th minute. The Senegalese striker netted his eighth goal of the season, volleying home Marc Cucurella’s cross past Villa keeper Emiliano Martinez at the near post. Villa’s protests for a foul on Jaden Philogene by Cucurella in the build-up were dismissed by the referee.
Enzo Fernandez doubled Chelsea’s lead in the 36th minute, coolly controlling the ball before slotting it past Martinez from 12 yards. The third goal came in the 83rd minute, with Cole Palmer scoring a brilliant strike from the edge of the area to secure his eighth goal of the campaign.
In other Premier League action, Tottenham’s top-four aspirations suffered a setback after a 1-1 draw with 10-man Fulham.
