Renowned Nigerian actor, Charles Inojie, has eulogized his late colleague, Sam Loco-Efe, hailing him as “the most intelligent Nollywood actor that ever lived.” In a recent conversation with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Inojie expressed admiration for Efe’s genius, describing him as being “from another planet.”
Inojie regretfully noted that the legendary actor passed away without receiving a national honor, emphasizing the disparity in recognizing talent in the country. He shared anecdotes about Efe’s remarkable ability to absorb scenes effortlessly, citing instances where Efe could correct others from a distance without them realizing he was guiding them.
Recalling working with Efe, Inojie highlighted the late thespian’s unique approach to rehearsals. Efe would read a scene only once, opting to let others rehearse their lines while he observed. If someone missed their lines during the actual performance, Efe would seamlessly guide them back on track.
Expressing his dismay at the lack of national recognition for Efe’s contributions, Inojie highlighted the actor’s achievements, including a special mention by the Queen as the best actor in Africa during Nigeria’s entry to FESTAC 1977 with the film “Lambodo.” Despite such accolades, Inojie lamented that Efe left the world without a posthumous national honor.
Sam Loco-Efe, a celebrated figure in Nigerian cinema, passed away on August 7, 2011, at the age of 65.
