Former President Muhammadu Buhari has disclosed that his eight-year administration may have been influenced or taken over by a powerful group known as a cabal. In a recent interview with the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), Buhari acknowledged the possibility of losing control to such a faction.
When questioned about the likelihood of a cabal influencing his administration, Buhari responded affirmatively, stating, “it must have been.” He emphasized his commitment to upholding the law and expressed doubt that those who violated it should be allowed to go unpunished.
Reflecting on his presidency, Buhari acknowledged the challenges and indicated that he left the assessment of whether his efforts were sufficient to the judgment of the people. He explained that his primary focus during his tenure was on addressing domestic issues, particularly the imperative of ensuring the security of the nation.
Buhari clarified that he deliberately refrained from competing with Nigeria’s affluent class in acquiring assets such as land, houses, and cars during his time in office. He attributed his peaceful post-government life to this choice. He revealed that some individuals attempted to set traps for him by offering certain opportunities, but he avoided falling into them, anticipating that compromise could be exploited to the detriment of the country.
