South African business magnate Johann Rupert has unseated Aliko Dangote, according to Forbes Magazine’s latest billionaire rankings. The financial publication also notes the decline of Nigerian billionaires Rabiu Abdulsamad and Mike Adenuga in their standings.
Forbes’ Daily billionaires ranking platform reveals Aliko Dangote’s shift to the second position as his net worth decreased from $13.5 billion in 2023 to $9.5 billion at the beginning of 2024. Mike Adenuga dropped to the tenth position, and Patrice Motsepe, previously in the top ten in 2023, failed to make the 2024 list.
A noteworthy change in the Forbes wealthiest people in Africa list is the absence of any women in the top ten richest individuals at the start of the year.
The devaluation of the Naira and other economic challenges are cited as factors contributing to the decrease in Dangote’s wealth.
In the 2024 rankings, Johann Rupert & Family’s wealth declined from $10.7 billion to $10.3 billion, making him Africa’s richest man. This shift comes with Aliko Dangote’s wealth dropping from $13.5 billion to $9.5 billion.
