Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State has urgently summoned a meeting with the State Executive Council, currently taking place at the Government House in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
The impetus for this meeting stems from the recent defection of 27 out of the 32 members of the House of Assembly from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the opposing All Progressives Congress (APC). The lawmakers made their political switch during a session at the House, prominently displaying the flags of the APC in a collective photograph following the proceedings.
The backdrop of this political upheaval involves a longstanding feud between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who currently serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), particularly regarding the party’s organizational framework within the state.
