In the Isale Eko area of Lagos State, a two-storey building has collapsed, sparking fear and alarm among residents. Reports suggest that numerous individuals are trapped within the structure, which is believed to have been compromised due to defects.
The integrity of the building is said to have been further weakened following a fire in parts of Dosunmu Market on Lagos Island. This incident has left many buildings, including the collapsed structure, seriously impacted.
Confirming the incident, Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, the Lagos Territorial Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), stated that 14 other buildings were also affected by the fire. The situation underscores the urgent need for coordinated efforts to rescue trapped individuals and assess the extent of damage caused by the collapse and the fire.
In April, the intensity of the fire that engulfed part of Dosunmu Market on Lagos Island led to the collapse of four buildings. Emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene, including NEMA, Federal and State Fire Services, the Nigeria Police, and the fire service of the Nigeria Ports Authority. Their coordinated efforts were crucial in managing the situation and addressing the aftermath of the fire, which resulted in significant damage to the affected buildings.
