The Labour Party (LP) has announced the indefinite suspension of six prominent members, including Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti, over allegations of anti-party conduct.
Others suspended are Senators Ireti Kingibe and Darlington Nwokocha, along with House of Representatives members Victor Afam Ogene, Amobi Ogah, and Seyi Sowunmi.
In a statement issued by the party’s National Secretary, Umar Farouk Ibrahim, LP said the decision was based on the findings of a disciplinary committee constituted on May 2, 2025. The five-member committee, led by Deputy National Chairman Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi, was tasked with investigating reported anti-party activities.
The statement read:
“Following the investigation by the Disciplinary Committee and its subsequent report, the National Executive Committee met on May 7, 2025. After thorough deliberations and in accordance with the powers vested in it by the party’s constitution, the NEC ratified the committee’s recommendations.”
“Consequently, the following members have been suspended indefinitely from the Labour Party and all its activities, effective immediately:
1. Dr. Alex Otti
2. Senator Ireti Kingibe
3. Senator Darlington Nwokocha
4. Hon. Victor Afam Ogene
5. Hon. Amobi Ogah
6. Hon. Seyi Sowunmi.”
The party also addressed recent claims involving Nenadi Usman, clarifying that she is not a registered member but a supporter of its 2023 presidential campaign. As such, no disciplinary action would be taken against her.
However, the party questioned her credibility, alleging corrupt practices. “She lacks the moral capacity to comment on corruption or initiate any probe,” the statement said, referencing alleged questionable acquisitions of properties and businesses.
Reasserting its political direction, the LP declared:
“The Labour Party will contest the 2027 general elections as an independent entity. No further discussions on alliances or coalitions will be entertained.”
