The Biafra Republic Government in Exile has made a bold claim, stating that over 30 million Biafrans participated in a self-referendum. This announcement comes amidst the widespread observance of a sit-at-home order across the South-East on Thursday, May 30.
Mr. Simon Ekpa, the Prime Minister of BRGIE, shared this information in a statement released through his official account handle on Thursday. According to Ekpa, the enthusiastic response of Biafrans to both E-voting and physical voting demonstrates their strong desire for liberation.
He highlighted that the number of participants in the self-referendum over the past four months exceeded the voter turnout in the 2023 Nigerian presidential election, which stood at 25,286,616. The voting, initiated in February and concluding on May 30, marks the first stage of Biafra Liberation, with subsequent stages scheduled to begin in June and last until November 28, 2024.
BRGIE had previously cited reasons such as marginalization, underdevelopment, insecurity, and poverty in the southeast region as justifications for the self-referendum.
“Biafra Self Referendum has recorded over 30 million votes on the last day of stage one,” Ekpa asserted.
Furthermore, BRGIE emphasized that the readiness of Biafrans to exit Nigeria is evident after enduring decades of marginalization. They declared May 29 to 31st, 2024, as sit-at-home days in honor of the Biafran heroes who lost their lives during the 1967-1970 Civil War in Nigeria.
