LASU Academic Staff Embark on Indefinite Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Lagos State University (LASU) has commenced an indefinite strike action, effective December 6, 2024. The decision was made in response to the non-implementation of a 25%/35% salary increment approved by the Federal Government.

The union expressed disappointment over the government’s delay in implementing the salary increase, particularly considering that other federal and state universities have already done so. Additionally, ASUU-LASU has called for the harmonization of salaries with other state universities, such as LASUOTECH and LASUED.

The union has urged students to disregard any information suggesting that normal academic activities are continuing at LASU. They emphasized that the strike is a collective action by all staff unions within the university.

As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how long the strike will last and what impact it will have on the academic calendar.
