Asake and Tyla: Two of My Favorite African Artists, According to Tems

Grammy-winning songstress, Temilade Openiyi, better known as Tems, has recently revealed her admiration for fellow compatriot, Asake, and the rising South African sensation, Tyla, as her top African artists of the moment.

This disclosure was made by the Oscar-nominated diva during her appearance on the red carpet at the Time100 Next Gala in New York. In response to an interviewer’s question about her current favorite African artists, Tems confidently stated, “My favorite African artists right now are Asake and Tyla.”

Notably, Tems was honored at the 2023 Time100 Next event and was recognized as a next-generation influencer in the industry.

It’s worth mentioning that she wasn’t the sole Nigerian luminary featured on the prestigious 2023 Time100 Next list. Dr. Toyin Ajayi, the CEO of the health startup Cityblock Health, and tech innovator Wemimo Abbey, alongside their co-founder Samir Goel for their startup, Esusu, also received this prestigious distinction.
