Manchester United winger Antony has joined Real Betis on a loan deal until the end of the season following a challenging spell at Old Trafford.
The 24-year-old Brazil international moved to Manchester United from Ajax in 2022 for a hefty £81.3 million ($101.5 million), making him the club’s second most expensive player at the time. However, Antony struggled to live up to expectations, scoring just 12 goals in 92 appearances for the club.
Real Betis confirmed the deal in a statement, saying, “Real Betis and Manchester United have reached a deal for a loan of Antony for the current season.”
Antony’s time at United started brightly, with the winger scoring in his first three appearances under former manager Erik ten Hag. However, his form soon dipped, and he found himself out of favor with the coach.
In addition to his on-field struggles, Antony faced an investigation by Brazilian police following allegations of domestic abuse. The case was concluded in August 2024, with no charges being brought, although the investigation reportedly contributed to his loss of form.
This season, Antony has not started a Premier League match for United, making only eight substitute appearances. His position on the right flank was often given to rising star Amad Diallo, with Antony’s chances becoming increasingly limited.
Now, the Brazilian winger will seek a fresh start with Real Betis, who are currently mid-table in La Liga and competing in the UEFA Conference League.
