Internationally acclaimed British-Nigerian boxer, Anthony Joshua, is currently on an extraordinary journey. He has dedicated £2,000 to a unique retreat, where he will spend four days alone in complete darkness. This unconventional form of retreat is favored by many athletes, including sporting stars, as a means of meditation, allowing them to introspect in isolation.
Prior to commencing this retreat, Joshua shared on Instagram, “Myself and [my friend] are about to embrace the darkness and solitude for four days (separate rooms). Isolated with nothing to do except relax and clear the mind while being immersed in infinite darkness.” He is expected to emerge from this retreat on Friday.
Throughout this week, the 34-year-old athlete has been provided with sustenance through food delivered to his room. However, there has been no social interaction or exposure to light.
NFL star Aaron Rodgers, who undertook a similar retreat back in March, shared his experience, expressing, “It was a great reset for me, for my body and my mind.” The 39-year-old athlete reflected on the four-day journey, saying, “Maybe a little bit longer than I needed. I feel like by the time I got to the fourth day, I was like, ‘Alright, I’m ready to come out.'”
