Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has announced a three-day period of mourning in honor of the late Ondo Governor, Mr. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu. As a mark of respect, Governor Makinde has also directed that all flags at public offices within the state be flown at half-mast throughout the mourning period.
The governor’s decision was conveyed through a statement issued by his Special Adviser (Media), Mr. Sulaimon Olarenwaju, on Thursday. Governor Makinde’s orders were issued shortly after his visit, along with the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, Governor Abdulrazaq Abdulrahman, to the residence of the late Ondo State governor in Ibadan.
It is worth noting that the Ondo State Government had previously declared a three-day mourning period to commemorate the passing of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, who passed away in the early hours of Wednesday, December 27, 2023. This announcement was made in a statement on Wednesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ebenezer Adeniyan.
