Joe Ajaero, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, is under investigation for terrorism financing and related crimes, according to ex-Assistant Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Dennis Amachree.
Ajaero was detained by the DSS at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Monday while en route to the United Kingdom for official duties. Held in custody throughout the day, he was later released on Monday night.
Amachree, speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, stated, “There is an ongoing investigation. He (Ajaero) cannot leave the country.” He further emphasized, “For terrorism financing, which Ajaero is accused of, he must remain in Nigeria while investigations continue.”
According to the former DSS director, the alleged link between Ajaero and Andrew Wynne—a person suspected of funding terrorism and who is currently in London—is under scrutiny. Amachree expressed concern that, if allowed to travel, Ajaero might avoid answering to these accusations, much like Binance executive Nadeem Anjarwalla, who also fled.
“Joe Ajaero has a terrorism case to answer, and he is not above the law,” Amachree concluded.
