AIG instructs CP to increase personnel deployment for the Calabar Carnival.

The Assistant Inspector General of Police for Zone Six, Jonathan Towuru, has instructed Commissioner of Police Augustine Grimah of Cross River State to increase the deployment of personnel for enhanced security coverage during the annual Calabar Carnival and the upcoming yuletide celebrations. This directive aims to ensure the safety of participants and guests throughout the festivities.

During a courtesy visit to his office by the Executive Secretary of the Cross River State Carnival Commission, Hon. Austin Cobham, and his team, AIG Towuru emphasized the importance of heightened security measures in response to reported crime resurgences such as kidnapping and armed robbery in the state. The AIG, as disclosed by the zonal PRO, SP Nelson Okpabi, urged residents, especially those partaking in the Calabar Carnival and yuletide events, to exercise vigilance and collaborate with the police.

Addressing the community, AIG Towuru emphasized, “I want to urge the good people of Zone Six residing in the state to be security conscious. I appeal for your cooperation with the police, and please be bold in promptly reporting any suspicious characters within your community to enable the police to disrupt and apprehend criminals. I have directed the Command Commissioner of Police to ensure the proper deployment of personnel and resources for effective policing during the yuletide season.”

Expressing gratitude, Executive Secretary Austin Cobham commended AIG Towuru for his supervisory role, which has contributed to relative peace in the state. The visit aimed to strengthen the existing partnership between the Carnival Commission and the police for a smooth and secure 2023 carnival. Cobham also extended an invitation to the AIG and his team to attend this year’s carnival, acknowledging the police force’s vital role in ensuring the state’s security.
