AFCONQ 2025: Super Eagles Promise Stronger Comeback Next Month After Rwanda Stalemate

The Super Eagles have responded to their 0-0 draw against Rwanda in Tuesday’s AFCON 2025 qualifier, vowing to come back stronger in next month’s matches.

In a tough Group D encounter in Kigali, Nigeria struggled to find the back of the net despite some promising moments. Rwanda dominated the opening exchanges, but the Super Eagles quickly took control, with Ademola Lookman posing a constant threat to the Amavubi’s defense.

Lookman came close in the 20th minute after a clever pass from Wilfred Ndidi, only to be denied by a superb save from Rwanda’s goalkeeper, Ntwari Fiacre. Moments later, Lookman found the net, but the goal was controversially disallowed by the referee.

Victor Boniface also had a near miss, hitting the woodwork just before halftime after a fine setup from Lookman. Despite substitutions made by caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen in the second half, the game ended in a goalless draw.

Despite the result, Nigeria remains at the top of Group D with four points from two games. Following the match, the Super Eagles took to X (formerly Twitter) to thank their fans for the unwavering support, while expressing their determination to improve next month.

“FT in Kigali: Rwanda 0-0 Nigeria. 4 points from two and we go again next month,” the Super Eagles tweeted. “Thank you, everyone, for your support and see you soon.”
