Sadiya Umar-Farouq, the former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development during the tenure of ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, declined to comply with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) summons regarding an alleged embezzlement of N37.1 billion that occurred during her term. The funds were purportedly laundered through a contractor named James Okwete.
Earlier reports had indicated that the former Minister was scheduled to appear before EFCC interrogators at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday at 10:00 am. However, an anonymous source within the EFCC confirmed that Sadiya Umar-Farouq did not respond to the Commission’s invitation on that day.
The source stated, “We have concluded our work for the day as she did not show up today, and it’s already 6 pm. It seems certain that she won’t be appearing today.”
This development occurred just within 24 hours of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu suspending Halima Shehu, the national coordinator of the National Social Investment Programme Agency, due to her alleged involvement in the fraudulent activities. Consequently, Halima Shehu was apprehended by the EFCC.
