The Football Association (FA) is currently conducting an investigation into a social media post made by Manchester United forward, Alejandro Garnacho, following their 1-0 victory against FC Copenhagen in the Champions League on Tuesday.
The sole goal of the match was netted by Harry Maguire during the second half. Despite this triumph, the Red Devils were somewhat fortunate to secure all three points, as goalkeeper Andre Onana came to the rescue by saving a last-minute penalty.
In the aftermath of the game, Garnacho shared a picture of himself celebrating with Onana, accompanied by two gorilla emojis in the caption. This post has triggered the FA’s inquiry.
Renowned football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, shared insights on the matter, stating, “The FA has initiated an inquiry into Garnacho’s use of gorilla emojis in conjunction with a picture of Andre Onana’s penalty save.”
Responding to the controversy, Onana himself weighed in, saying, “People can’t dictate what I should find offensive. Garnacho intended to convey power and strength. Let’s not escalate this any further.”
