A man identified as Kehinde Olanipekun is reportedly on the run after allegedly assaulting his wife, Damilola, with a machete.
According to reports, Damilola had accused her husband of sexually harassing her 14-year-old daughter, whom she had from a previous relationship before marrying him.
The following day, Olanipekun allegedly attacked his wife with a machete at their residence in Idasen Community in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State and then fled the scene.
Damilola was promptly taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, by her concerned neighbors but was later referred to another hospital due to the severity of the injuries inflicted by her fleeing husband.
Recalling her horrifying ordeal, Damilola told Punch:
“He punched my head and my face, then retrieved his machete and began striking every part of my body. I fell and was unable to defend myself. When the neighbors heard my cries for help, they knocked on the door to rescue me, but it was locked from the inside. After a while, he had escaped, and I managed to open the door, allowing the neighbors to finally rescue me. I was rushed to the hospital.”
The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident and stated that the suspect is still at large, not yet apprehended. She said:
“We have initiated a search for the suspect, and an investigation is underway.”
Damilola revealed that her daughter, Olanipekun’s stepdaughter, had informed her about her husband’s inappropriate advances when she was not at home. Troubled by this revelation, she confronted her husband. He didn’t deny the accusations but apologized.
On the fateful day of the attack, he claimed he was going to work but returned within an hour, locking the door from the inside and producing a machete from the room. When questioned, he said he intended to use it for work. Without any prior argument, he commenced his brutal assault on Damilola.
