A 54-year-old man has been detained for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor in Lagos.

Jegede Folorunsho, aged 54, has been remanded in the Ikoyi Correctional Centre on charges of allegedly sexually assaulting an eight-year-old girl in the Mushin neighborhood of Lagos State.

The accused was brought before Magistrate O.M. Ajayi on Monday at a Magistrate Court in the Ebute Metta area of the state, facing charges of defilement of a minor, as stated by the police prosecutor, Paul Ugorji.

Ugorji pointed out that Folorunsho’s actions were in violation of Section 137 of the Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015 Criminal Law. The charge against him specified that on October 4, 2023, at No 4 Adegbite Lane, Mushin Lagos State, he defiled an eight-year-old girl, an offense punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant did not enter a plea, and the magistrate, after considering the police’s application, ordered Folorunsho to be remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre. Additionally, the court instructed consultation with the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal guidance on the case file.

The magistrate scheduled the next hearing for December 15, 2023, to receive a report on the DPP’s advice.
