Applications are now open for the prestigious Hyundai Motor Group Scholarships 2026/2027, offering fully funded postgraduate study opportunities for outstanding African students at SOAS University of London.

Funded by Hyundai Motor Group, this scholarship programme is designed to nurture future African leaders and experts committed to sustainable development and long-term transformation across the continent.

For the 2026/27 academic year, seven fully funded scholarships will be awarded.

About the Scholarship Programme

The Hyundai Motor Group Scholarships aim to:

  • Support academic excellence among African students

  • Develop specialists focused on sustainable development

  • Build long-term partnerships between scholars and Hyundai Motor Group

  • Empower graduates to create innovative solutions to global challenges

Beyond financial support, the programme fosters a strong alumni network and continuous collaboration model that extends well beyond graduation.

Number of Scholarships Available

For 2026/2027, the programme offers:

  • Six (6) Master’s scholarships

  • One (1) MPhil/PhD research scholarship

Scholarship Benefits

Master’s Award

  • Total value: £27,730

  • Full tuition fees covered

  • Remaining balance (if any) paid as a living stipend

PhD Award

  • Full tuition coverage for three years of full-time study

  • Tuition support for the fourth-year writing-up period

  • Annual stipend of £22,780 (2026/27 rate), paid in termly instalments

  • Opportunity to apply for the Junior Internship Programme at SOAS (for eligible Master’s scholars)

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify, applicants must:

  • Be African nationals ordinarily resident in Africa

  • Be classified as international fee-paying students

  • Be applying for a new programme starting in 2026/27

  • Have applied to SOAS (an admission offer is not required by the scholarship deadline, but an unconditional offer must be secured before final selection)

  • Meet SOAS English language requirements (if applicable)

Please note: The scholarship does not cover pre-sessional courses.

Academic Requirements

For Master’s Applicants

  • Must hold (or expect to obtain) the equivalent of a UK First-Class Honours degree

  • Non-UK graduates must demonstrate top academic ranking through transcripts and references

  • Applicants with a 2:1 (or equivalent) may apply but will not receive preference

For MPhil/PhD Applicants

  • Must hold (or expect to obtain) the equivalent of a UK Master’s degree with Distinction

  • Non-UK Master’s graduates must demonstrate top academic standing

  • Applicants with a Merit (or equivalent) may apply but will not receive preference

Eligible programmes

Any full-time (1 year) masters degree programme and any full-time research degree programme beginning in the 2026/27 academic year

Applicants to courses within the College of Development Studies, Economics and Finance and College of Law, Anthropology and Politics are particularly encouraged to apply.

Part-time courses and 2-year master’s courses are not eligible.

Notification of results

The scholarship shortlisting and awarding period is expected to be completed in June at the earliest. Successful candidates will be contacted first, and once all awards have been allocated, unsuccessful candidates will be notified.
