A 31-year-old man has been apprehended on charges of sexually assaulting his infant daughter in North West, South Africa, according to a statement released by Captain Aafie Botma, the provincial police spokesperson, on Sunday, October 22, 2023.
Captain Botma detailed that the suspect’s arrest occurred on Thursday, October 19, following allegations of him raping his one-month-old daughter in the locality of Kokedile Drift West.
The official statement reads: “Police in Brits apprehended a 31-year-old man on Thursday, October 19, 2023, on suspicion of sexually assaulting a one-month-old baby girl in Krokedile Drift West, Brits.”
As per the reports, the infant’s 27-year-old mother was occupied preparing food outdoors in their makeshift dwelling while the father and the baby were inside. She suddenly heard the baby’s cries and, upon entering, observed that something was amiss, with both the father and baby being undressed. Alarmed, the mother immediately sought assistance from a neighbor, who in turn contacted the police.
“The baby was promptly taken to Brits Hospital for a medical examination and was subsequently admitted.”
The father has been taken into custody and charged with rape.
Captain Botma added, “The suspect is in custody and is expected to appear in the Brits Magistrate’s Court on Monday, October 23, 2023, to face the rape charges.”
North West Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, strongly condemned this distressing incident and praised both the police and community members for their swift response that led to the suspect’s arrest.
