2027: LP Unveils Mobile App, Aims for 20 Million Member Milestone

The Julius Abure-led Labour Party has launched an ambitious plan to expand its membership to over 20 million through an online registration and revalidation process, preparing for the 2027 elections. The Labour Party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, unveiled the initiative in a communiqué issued in Abuja after a virtual National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Saturday. The initiative aims to strengthen the party’s political presence and influence nationwide.

Ifoh announced that the membership drive would run concurrently with the party’s congresses at the ward and state levels. The first phase of the online registration and revalidation process will begin immediately and end on January 31, 2025, updating the ward register ahead of congresses, which will take place between February and March 2025. He also encouraged members interested in running for positions at the ward level to start their preparations now.

In addition to the membership expansion, the Labour Party has established an Electoral Reform Committee to address the issues faced during the 2023 general elections. Abure emphasized the party’s commitment to pursuing electoral reforms to ensure future elections are credible, fair, and transparent. Benedict Etanabene will chair the committee, with Okey Joe serving as co-chair and Dudu Manuga as secretary. The committee is expected to submit its report within eight weeks.

Abure concluded by reaffirming the party’s goal to become Nigeria’s largest political force, preparing for future political engagements with the aim of rescuing the nation from its current challenges. He stated that Nigeria had been in the doldrums for too long and that they were determined to rescue the nation.
