Manchester United plan to strengthen their midfield in January. Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton has become a top target for manager Ruben Amorim according to TEAMtalk.

United wanted a new midfielder in the summer. They tried to sign Carlos Baleba from Brighton but the club refused to sell. Reports said United might return for Baleba in January but attention has now turned to Wharton.

The 21-year-old joined Crystal Palace from Blackburn Rovers last year. He quickly became a key player and helped Palace win the FA Cup against Manchester City in May.

European Clubs Interested in Wharton

Wharton has one England cap and was part of the squad for Euro 2024. His calm style and strong performances have made him one of the most wanted young midfielders in Europe.

Clubs like Bayern Munich Liverpool Manchester City and Real Madrid have all shown interest. Manchester United hope to move ahead of their rivals but Palace will ask for at least £70 million.

United are also watching Jobe Bellingham of Borussia Dortmund and Victor Froholdt from FC Porto as backup options.

Palace Chairman Speaks on Wharton’s Future

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish said the club do not need to sell their star player but admitted Wharton may want to play in the Champions League one day.

“I think Adam will want to play in the Champions League, maybe with us if we can make it happen, or with another club,” Parish said.

When asked about United’s interest he added:

“If Manchester United want Adam Wharton, that’s not surprising. He’s under a long contract, and there’s no pressure to sell or for him to leave.”

Amorim Looks to Strengthen Midfield

Amorim wants more depth in midfield as he builds his 3-4-2-1 system. Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro remain key players but the manager wants younger support.

Manuel Ugarte is not a regular under Amorim and Kobbie Mainoo could leave on loan in January with Napoli showing interest.

United face Liverpool on Sunday in a tough Premier League clash as they chase back-to-back wins. Palace host Bournemouth hoping to recover from their first loss in 19 matches before the international break.
