Taiwo Oyebanjo, the estranged wife of OAP Dotun, faces the possibility of a jail term after being found in contempt of court for obstructing her children’s father’s access to them

Taiwo Oyebanjo, the former spouse of OAP Dotun Kayode and the younger sibling of singer Dapo “D’Banj” Oyebanjo, has been determined to be in contempt of court in a divorce case filed in Abuja, which may result in her imprisonment.

In a ruling issued on October 23rd, a high court in Dukpa, Abuja, held Taiwo Oyebanjo accountable for violating the court’s order pertaining to the shared custody of their children. As a result, she has been directed to pay a fine of N200,000 within 30 days, with the potential consequence of imprisonment if the fine is not settled.

It’s worth noting that in lawsuit No. GWD/ PET/25/21, the court had previously granted Dotun and his estranged wife shared custody of their children following Dotun’s request in April 2022. Initially, both parties adhered to this arrangement. However, allegations arose that Taiwo denied Dotun access to their children from December 2022.

Dotun sought legal recourse and took to social media to make their issues public. He also claimed on social media that Taiwo had taken their two daughters out of Nigeria since June 2023, effectively preventing him from seeing them.

On October 23rd, the court issued a verdict, finding Taiwo guilty of defying the court’s order. It declared her refusal to grant Dotun Kayode access and custody of the children in December 2022 as a direct act of disobedience to the court’s order. The court ordered her to pay a fine of N200,000 within 30 days, with the consequence of a jail term if the fine remains unpaid.

Notably, Taiwo was not present in court when the judgment was delivered.
